Waco High Class of 1989 20 yr Reunion - Saturday Night

First, my cheeks were hurting from all the gleaming and smiling Friday night. It was just so good seeing everyone and how good they looked. We have such a unique class with so many great personalities. Goofy in many ways, yet, sheik and sophisticated in others.

I was so tired Saturday morning, seeings how I went to bed somewhere after 2:30am that I questioned if it would have been sensible to have a day picnic, which we did not. Originally I had all these plans for a picnic, golf and putt-putt at Lion's Park, a tour of Waco High and a day time class picture. Do you know how hot it is now in June? As time went on, those ideas were ditched. Perhaps when we reunite for our 25th. Who knows.

Well, our Saturday 80s Party Night started promptly at 7pm at the Conference Center at MCC. It is Waco's best kept secret, because it's only been around for less than 5 years. I checked out the Waco Hilton, which is where we had our 10 year Saturday night affair some time last summer and they quoted me a minimum $8,000! Say what??? Let's just say, we fared much better at the Conference Center for more space, bells and whistles.

The committee decided they didn't want a sit down affair, but something more casual, so we had all you can eat finger foods, veggies and fruit for the classmates. We also had two big screens with a cool slideshow of yearbook and classmate donated pictures on rotation all night. We had a memory table with WHS yearbooks from '87, '88, and '89. I even pulled out our '86 year book from Jefferson Moore, where I attended as a Freshman before the three school's consolidated into what WHS is today.

The 80s in my opinion was the best time to be a teenager. We had the best music, the best times to really socialize with folks (pre-internet and pre-cell phone) face to face. Our class loves to party and when the DJ starting playing the right songs, we filled the entire dance floor and partied like it was 1999! Or shall I say, 1989!!! We took a class picture and it seemed like old times. We honored the six classmates whom have since departed, had awards for different classmates, and took pictures and talked all night long. We danced all night, too. And those who were not dancing we talking to old friends. We simply didn't have enough time to enjoy everyone.

Even our dear principal Dr. Butch Luce and his wife came out to celebrate with us both nights. When your shindig ended around 11ish, everyone who still had the energy headed over to Austin's On the Avenue downtown to continue the love fest. So...if you know the password, enjoy the pictures.
